Yohimbe is a short-term MAO (monoamine oxidase) inhibitor (medicines that relieve certain mental depression types) and should be used with caution, especially if you have high blood pressure. As an MAO inhibitor, it’s advised that yohimbe not be taken with any food or drink containing tyramines (cheese, chocolate, beer, aged meats, nuts, etc.) In addition, yohimbe should not be taken with the amino acids tyrosine or phenylalanine, as this may cause a rise in blood pressure. There is also a danger if yohimbe is taken with caffeine, amphetamines, anti-depressants, antihistamines, or sedatives. Other side effects may include irritability, headache, racing heart rate, sweating, dizziness, nausea, and frequent urination. And, if you have been diagnosed with kidney disease, glaucoma, a heart condition, or history of gastric or duodenal ulcers, you should avoid taking yohimbe.

Contraindicated in existing liver and kidney diseases and in chronic inflammation of the prostate gland or for individuals who suffer from hypertension; not recommended for long term use; seek advise from a health care practitioner prior to use if you are taking an MAO-inhibitor (including tyramines), or if you have any heart conditions or other medical conditions.
