Alaffia makes a difference in the world with its fair-trade-certified, handcrafted shea butter skin care products.
You know shea butter as a great moisturizer. African women know it as a means to make a living. For the 20 to 30 hours they spend harvesting shea nuts and handcrafting its oil, one kilogram of shea butter is produced—and then traded for less than a dollar in today's market. The women only bring home only a fraction of this amount for a week's worth of hard work.
Alaffia was created to help West African women, and their communities, through the fair trade of indigenous resources. At the Alaffia Cooperative in Togo, Africa, women who work to create Alaffia products receive a salary nearly four times that of the average income of others in the community. Alaffia also donates 10 percent of all sales to community empowerment projects.

"I decided to give this a try after seeing how great their liquid soap is. I have used many different moisturizers on my face, including Origins and Clarins. My skin is very oily, so I have to be careful about my moisturizer. This moisturizer sinks in fast and doesn't feel greasy, as well as keeping my face from getting too oily throughout the day. I hope they never stop making it. This bottle will last me a very, very long time."

"If you are looking for a super-rich hand/body cream, or if your skin is very sensitive and dry, this is perfect. The quality is wonderful (just check out Alaffia's website - their ethics and direct ingredient sources are among the highest quality in the business, or any business really!) and this has a nice, thick consistency that really soothes dry skin. It would be nice for an intensive foot treatment overnight, too. :) Best of all besides the 10% to empower the communities they work in, and the fair-trade shea? Comes in a GLASS JAR! Love it."
