Grape seed extract, from the seeds of red grapes, contains chemicals known as polphenols (specifically, a subclass called proanthocyanidins), which are antioxidants that neutralize cell-damaging free radicals. Besides working to protect healthy cells from free radicals, benefits of grape seed extract may also include enhanced circulation, retinal eye health, premenstrual health and dental health. Grape seed supplements should be taken in standardized form for best health results. For general health maintenance, a dose of 50 mg of grape seed extract per day is recommended. For specific health concerns, grape seed supplements can be taken at doses up to 300 mg per day.
