GABA
Manufactured naturally by the body from the amino acid glutamine and glucose, GABA (gamma-amino butyric acid) is a neurotransmitter that facilitates communication between brain cells. While the body usually produces sufficient amounts of GABA, levels may become depleted due to poor diet, lack of exercise and other environmental factors. Benefits of GABA, when taken supplementally, may include calming effects (which can improve sleep), mood enhancement and menstrual mood relief. For stress relief, try taking GABA supplements at a dose of 250 mg, three times per day. GABA supplements are best taken between meals, on an empty stomach, for best absorption.
