Alpha lipoic acid (ALA) is a vitamin-like compound with antioxidant properties. It promotes healthy cell function and may provide protective benefits against oxidative processes.

ALA has been called the universal antioxidant. Besides neutralizing unstable free radical molecules in the body, ALA may boost glutathione (one of the body's most powerful antioxidants) levels in cells.

ALA is also a co-factor for some of the key enzymes involved in generating energy from food and oxygen in mitochondria. It may enhance energy levels while also assisting the body with supporting healthy blood sugar levels.
