What are chia seeds?
Chia seeds are nutrient-rich seeds derived from a plant called Salvia hispanica (of the mint family), native to Mexico and Guatemela. Aztec and Mayan civilizations regularly consumed chia seeds as a whole grain or ground into flour and used in a variety of dishes. The word chia means “strength” in the Mayan language and, according to folklore, the seeds were prized by ancient cultures for their energy-boosting properties.
