What is NSI® Goldenseal Root?

Goldenseal root (Hydrastis canadensis) is a perennial herb belonging to the buttercup family, named for the golden yellow color of the plant’s thick root. Goldenseal has been used traditionally as support for immune and digestive health. It may promote healthy mucous membranes and mucous production, as well as stimulate digestive enzyme and stomach acid production. Goldenseal can be used as mouthwash or rinse to relieve sore gums and throat. It may also have soothing, cooling and sterilizing effects when applied externally to skin. (Note: Taking goldenseal long term may interfere with the absorption of B vitamins. Use for two weeks at a time, with at least a two week break in between.)
