How Does NSI® L-Tryptophan work?
L-tryptophan is an essential amino acid—meaning the body does not produce it on its own; it must be obtained through diet. It's found in small amounts in nuts, grains, beans, legumes, cheese, eggs, and meat.

L-tryptophan breaks down into four different metabolites in the body. Most notably, it's converted to 5-HTP, which is then converted to serotonin—a neurotransmitter that helps regulate mood, sleep and appetite. Low serotonin levels in the brain are associated with poor mental health and sleep disturbances. Supplementing with L-tryptophan may help raise serotonin levels, promoting better mood, relaxation and rest.

In addition, L-tryptophan is broken down into melatonin, a hormone that regulates the body's sleep-wake cycle, and the B-vitamin, niacin, which helps maintain healthy function of the nervous system, digestive system and skin.
