Resveratrol, found in the skin and seeds of red grapes as well as in wine, berries and some plants, is a substance produced by plants in response to injury or fungal infection. Another recent study showed that resveratrol was able to protect mice from weight gain while also boosting physical endurance. After three weeks of supplementing with high doses of resveratrol, mice fed a high-fat diet weighed only 20% more than those eating a standard diet. Those who didn't take resveratrol weighed 60% more than the control mice.
