A naturally occurring phospholipid, phosphatidylserine (PS) is a major structural component in many biological membranes. It’s especially concentrated in brain and nerve tissue. PS assists proteins that manage membrane functions, facilitates entry of nutrients into cells and the exit of waste products out of cells, and it’s involved in cell-to-cell message transmission. Supplementing with PS is believed to support key brain functions, promote healthy memory and help maintain healthy cortisol levels. In 2003, the FDA allowed two health claims for PS: the first allowed claim is that PS may reduce the risk of cognitive dysfunction in the elderly, and the second is that PS may reduce the risk of dementia in the elderly. This powerful nutrient is included in Synergy NeuroPower® as SerinAid™, a patented, water-extracted form of PS derived from soy.

Coenzyme Q10, 200 mg
Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a fat-soluble nutrient that plays an important part in cellular energy production. Found in the mitochondria (or "power plant'') of cells, CoQ10 helps generate the fuel cells needed to effectively power the body’s organs and systems. It also functions as a powerful antioxidant, protecting cells from damage caused by unstable free radical molecules. Over time, mitochondria accumulate damage, causing cells and eventually tissues to malfunction and break down, leading to poor health. As the brain is particularly vulnerable to oxidative stress (due to its rich oxygen supply and fatty acid content), its need for antioxidant protection is great. CoQ10, which is able to cross the blood-brain barrier, helps protect neurons from the ravages of oxidative damage while also helping raise neuronal energy levels.

Ginkgo Biloba Extract, 240 mg
This standardized extract from the Chinese Ginkgo biloba tree promotes optimal blood circulation to the brain for healthy cognitive function. It may also help maintain healthy oxygen and glucose metabolism in the brain. Ginkgo biloba extract contains a mixture of flavonoids and terpenoids with antioxidant and free-radical-scavenging properties that help protect healthy cells and tissues from oxidative damage.

Acetyl L-Carnitine, 1,000 mg
Acetyl l-carnitine (ALC) may help fight fatigue and promote enhanced memory and cognitive function. It is also an antioxidant that protects against free radical damage. ALC is a nutrient similar in form and function to L-Carnitine, an amino acid that assists with the conversion of fatty acids into energy. ALC crosses the blood brain barrier better than L-carnitine and then splits into L-carnitine and an acetyl moiety. In the brain, L-carnitine assists with the conversion of fatty acids into energy. The acetyl moiety plays a part in the production of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter required for healthy mental function.

Alpha Lipoic Acid, 600 mg
Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) has been called the "universal" antioxidant. In addition to neutralizing unstable free radical molecules in the body, ALA may also boost the level of glutathione, one of the body's most powerful antioxidants. Glutathione plays an important role in promoting brain and visual health. One of the most beneficial effects of ALA is its ability to regenerate other essential antioxidants, such as coenzyme Q10 and vitamins C and E. ALA has been shown in studies to work synergistically with ALC to improve healthy brain function. When consumed in doses of 600 mg, ALA has also been seen to benefit those with neuropathic issues related to unhealthy blood sugar levels.

Choline, 200 mg
A precursor to acetylcholine (a neurotransmitter involved in memory), choline is a vitamin-like substance that’s needed for proper functioning of nerves as well as the structural integrity of cell membranes. Choline may promote healthy memory function.

Vinpocetine, 5mg
Derived from vincamine, an extract of the periwinkle plant, vinpocetine is a phytonutrient that promotes healthy blood circulation and oxygen flow to the brain. By inhibiting an enzyme (PDE1) and reducing intracellular calcium levels, vinpocetine helps brain blood vessels relax so blood can flow smoothly through them. It also promotes healthy blood consistency for smooth flow. Healthy blood flow to the brain is important for its healthy cognitive performance, memory, learning ability and mood. Vinpocetine may also support ATP synthesis, helping supply the crucial energy needed to power brain cells.

Pine Bark Extract, 200 mg
