How Does NSI® Synergy Women's® Multi-Vitamin Version 5 Work?
Synergy Women's Version 5 is one of the most advanced multi-vitamin formulas specially designed for women’s changing health needs. Synergy Women’s contains nutrients that may help promote healthy heart, brain, eyes, breast, uterus, bone, joints, gastrointestinal tract, immune function, cell division and healthy blood sugar levels.

Acetyl L-Carnitine, Alpha Lipoic Acid & Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10): Approximately 95% of cellular energy production occurs in the mitochondria, “power plants,” found within each cell. However, this cellular energy production also generates excessive amounts of free radicals that damage mitochondria resulting in a marked loss of mitochondrial function as people get older. Acetyl L-carnitine helps transport fats into mitochondria which increases mitochondrial energy production. CoQ10 also increases the production of mitochondrial energy by transferring electrons. Alpha lipoic acid and CoQ10 are powerful antioxidants which may protect mitochondria from free radical damage.
 
The combination of acetyl L-carnitine and alpha lipoic acid synergistically and markedly improves and protects mitochondrial energy production. Human studies of acetyl L-carnitine, alpha lipoic acid and CoQ10 have each been reported to help protect cardiovascular and neurological health so combining these three antioxidants together may be even more beneficial. Synergy Women’s has acetyl L-carnitine (300 mg), alpha lipoic acid (300 mg) and naturally fermented CoQ10 (200 mg) which may promote healthy aging by improving and protecting the production of mitochondrial energy. Synergy Women’s may help many women to feel more energy through-out the day and may also help some women to notice better brain function.

Resveratrol is a potent antioxidant which is concentrated in grape skins and a bottle of red wine contains approximately 1 to 10 mg of resveratrol. Synergy Women’s has 50 mg of resveratrol as ResveraPure®. Resveratrol also improves mitochondrial energy production so combining resveratrol together with acetyl L-carnitine, alpha lipoic acid and CoQ10 may promote anti-aging (healthy aging). Resveratrol has many beneficial actions which in animal studies has been shown to protect cardiovascular and neurological health, to reduce the development of abnormal cell growth, and to lengthen lifespan.

Grape Seed Extract: Animal studies and human epidemiological studies report that drinking red wine is associated with better heart and brain health and a longer lifespan. ActiVin® Grape Seed Extract (200 mg) has a typical ORAC antioxidant score of 1,800 to 2,600 units which is equivalent in antioxidant activity to three to five servings of fruit. Proanthocyanidins are the major antioxidants in red wine. ActiVin® Grape Seed Extract (200 mg) has more than 170 mg of proanthocyanidins which is approximately equivalent in antioxidants to two glasses of red wine. The combination of resveratrol, grape seed extract and red wine extract may offer many of the health benefits of drinking red wine without the alcohol, calories or sulfites.

Pine Bark Extract (using 100 to 200 mg daily) has been reported to improve mental concentration, vascular function and joint function. Synergy Women’s contains 200 mg of Pine Bark Extract (standardized with 95% oligomeric proanthocyanidins).

Pomegranate Juice has a variety of antioxidants including the most important and potent group called punicosides.  Synergy Women’s has a full-spectrum pomegranate extract (500 mg; standardized as 40% punicosides) which is approximately equivalent in antioxidants to two glasses of pomegranate juice. Human clinical trials reported that drinking one glass daily of pomegranate juice improved the arteries in the heart and improved the carotid arteries in the neck.

Green Tea: Drinking three cups of green tea has been reported to be associated with protection of the cardiovascular and cerebrovascular systems. Synergy Women’s includes 500 mg of a potent Green Tea Extract (standardized to 98% polyphenols, 80% catechins, 45% EGCG), which is roughly equivalent in antioxidant activity to drinking three cups of green tea.

GI Tract, Immune Function, Blood Sugar Levels and Vision: Synergy Women’s has 3 billion colony forming units of probiotic (L. acidophilus and B. bifidum) which may help protect the gastrointestinal tract. Probiotics, vitamin E, zinc, and selenium (200 mcg) may boost immune function. Furthermore, alpha lipoic acid as well as the combination of chromium (in the superior form ChromeMate® at 400 mcg) and biotin (3,000 mcg) may help maintain healthy blood sugar levels. To promote vision and healthy eyes, this supplement includes chelated, highly-absorbable zinc (30 mg as OptiZinc®) and powerful antioxidants such as lutein, alpha lipoic acid, acetyl L-carnitine, CoQ10, quercetin and proanthocyanidins (from Grape Seed Extract and Pine Bark Extract).

Breast, Uterus, Bones and Cartilage in Joints: Synergy Women's contains 60 mg of soy isoflavones (an amount that many people eat from soy in east Asia), which may help protect the breast and uterus from excessive estrogenic stimulation and may also help relieve symptoms associated with hormonal fluctuations. Synergy Women’s promotes healthy bones with 500 mg of highly absorbable calcium (as calcium citrate, malate, Advan-C™), magnesium (250 mg), vitamin D3 (2,000 IU), vitamin K (1,000 mcg) and boron (3 mg). Vitamin D3 at 2,000 IU is an effective dose which may help to promote healthy bones and healthy cell division. Glucosamine sulfate (750 mg) is also included for it may help protect cartilage in joints.

Nails, Skin and Hair: Some women who take Synergy Women’s may notice that their nails grow faster and are stronger which could be due to several nutrients, especially the B vitamins and particularly the 3,000 mcg of biotin.  Some women may notice smoother skin—probably due to the antioxidants. It appears more difficult to influence hair although a few women may notice improvement in their hair after taking Synergy Women’s for about 4 months—perhaps due to the B vitamins and zinc.
