How Does NSI® Vegetarian Defense Nutrients work?
NSI® Vegetarian Defense Nutrients is a powerful blend of antioxidant nutrients that work synergistically with one another to protect healthy cells from free radical damage. Antioxidants, found naturally in fruits, vegetables, grains and other vitamin- and mineral-rich foods, are protective compounds that fight the damaging effects of free radicals. Free radicals are harmful molecules generated by the body as part of its normal functioning and also occur as a result of exposure to UV sunlight, pollution, smoke and chemicals. They attack healthy cells, destroying membranes and DNA, and are believed to lead to the development of poor health and premature aging.

Antioxidants act as a first line of defense against free radicals. They deactivate them, stopping the chain reaction of destruction they could potentially cause. Supplying the body with additional antioxidants may help protect cell health and the normal functioning of the body’s systems.

Vitamin A (as Betatene®). Beta-Carotene (the precursor of vitamin A) is one of the most potent free-radical-scavenging antioxidants known. Included is 25,000 IU of vitamin A as Betatene®, a unique, patented blend of carotenes (including beta-carotene, alpha-carotene, cryptoxanthin, zeaxanthin and lutein) derived from sea algae. Unlike synthetic beta-carotene, Betatene® is natural and easily absorbed by the body.
 
Vitamin C. Vitamin C protects the DNA of cells from free radical damage and may specifically work to combat lipid peroxidation. Vitamin C also works with glutathione peroxidase (a major free-radical-fighting enzyme) to revitalize vitamin E. An optimal dose of 1,000 mg is included.

Vitamin E. Vitamin E is the body’s premiere fat-soluble antioxidant. It works synergistically with vitamin C to protect LDL (“bad”) cholesterol from oxidation, thereby protecting cardiovascular health.

Selenium (as Selenium SeLECT®). Selenium is a powerful antioxidant mineral that both protects cell membranes and contents and works synergistically with other antioxidants to boost their protective abilities. It’s believed to play an important role in immune health. Selenium SeLECT® is a safe, organically bound form of selenium that’s more bioavailable than other “dry-blended” selenium products.

Chromium (as ChromeMate®). Chromium is a trace mineral essential in glucose metabolism. By promoting healthy blood sugar and insulin levels, chromium helps combat the oxidative stress that results when blood sugar levels are unhealthy. ChromeMate® is a unique, patented form of biologically active niacin-bound chromium called chromium nicotinate or polynicotinate that dramatically increases the effectiveness of chromium.
