You are making a difference.
If every household in the U.S. replaced just one 250 count package of virgin fiber napkins with 100% recycled ones, we could save:
· 1.0 million trees
· 2.7 million cubic feet of landfill space, equal to 4,000 full garbage trucks
· 380 million gallons of water, a year's supply for over 2,900 families of four
· and avoid 64,000 pounds of pollution
Seventh Generation napkins are made from 100% recycled paper, with a minimum of 80% post consumer materials. Our paper is whitened with an environmentally safe process - never with chlorine bleach. Your choice of our napkins makes an important difference today, and for the next seven generations.
Here's how:
Recycling paper prevents unnecessary landfilling of valuable resources. In addition to saving trees, producing recycled paper uses less water and energy than paper made from trees. Post-consumer materials are those that we recycle from our homes and offices that would otherwise be placed into landfills. By using post-consumer materials we help "close the loop" to encourage more recycling and less waste of valuable resources.
Our napkins are whitened with sodium hydrosulfite, a non-toxic biodegradable bleach made from salt and oxegen. This environmentally safe process keeps chlorine's dangers out of your home and our environment. Bleaching paper with chlorine creates dangerous toxins such as dioxin, furans and other organochlorines. Once loose in the environment, these chemicals accumulate in both people and animals. Hundreds of studies have shown a direct link between dioxin exposure and cancer, birth defects and developmental and reproductive disorders.
