A large group of algae, including many vibrant-colored seaweeds, red marine algae is a good source of astaxanthin-the carotenoid pigment that turns grazing fish, shrimp, crabs and other marine animals pink.

You may take fish oil to get omega-3 DHA, but why not go straight to the source? Algae is naturally rich in this essential fatty acid, which builds up in fish who consume it. Algal oil is a convenient way to add more DHA to your diet, especially if you’re a vegetarian.
