Spelt is a non-hybrid primitive relative of our present day wheat that dates back more the 9,000 years. Spelt has a unique nutty flavor and because of its high water solubility, its vital nutrients are quickly absorbed into the body. Bob's Red Mill Spelt makes a pleasantly chewy hot, whole grain cereal and can be used in place of rice and other grains for wide variety of side dishes. When ground, spelt makes a wonderful baking flour that can be used in most recipes calling for wheat flour.


Cooking Instructions

Add 1 cup Spelt Berries to 3 cups boiling water or stock. Cover, reduce heat and simmer for 1½ hours.

tastes great I soak these over night, rinse then cook. It takes a long time to cook, but then I have it along side my scrambled eggs in the morning instead of rice. I put it in soup, and eat it with a dollup of butter on top, or a tsp. of miso mixed in. Or with steamed vegetables. May 25, 2014

Wonderful product I use these spelt berries in my milling machine which turns it into flour, of which I use for baking bread. This is in place of wheat of which I am not able to eat. The only requirement is that I have to add a tsp. of vitamin C to the recipe for Spelt bread in order for the loaf to come out right. April 4, 2014
