Not great as a shampoo I have not tried this directly on my skin, yet, but as a Shampoo, it is not great. It leaves a waxy buildup in my scalp/hair and I end up constantly cleaning the buildup out of my brush. I am caucasian with oily skin and hair. It does clean oily hair, but my hair gets oily again unusually quicker when using this product. Unfortunately, I have to use it up. Waste not, want not. My rating of barely two stars is only referring to using it as a Shampoo. I won't buy it again for shampooing, but I have yet to use it for other uses. I'll have to see if it is good for shaving. This soap has my vote! The fragrance is clean and fresh. The soap is easy on the hands, face, etc. I have used it as shampoo, as well. I like that it has no SLS, parabens, or other harsh chemicals. And Vitacost has the best price I've found. May 12, 2013

Best cleanser ever I used this for washing my hair, face and body and it leaves me moisturized all over. Has the squeaky clean feeling after rinsing which was quite alarming as it is hard to rinse the hair without tangling but after drying, my hair was incredibly smooth and shiny. I suspect the moisturizing effect for hair may be a bit too much for my scalp as I have oily scalp but perfect for my long dry hair, will probably use it weekly instead of daily. Makes my skin feel super moisturized without needing any body lotion. Ingredients are simple and effective. Highly recommended. May 11, 2013

Great, clean-smelling soap I'm so glad I gave this soap a try! It's very skin-softening, which was especially helpful over the winter. It feels silky going over your skin, but it also gives a VERY mild stinging sensation, which makes it feel like it's very cleansing while still moisturizing your skin. The skin of the plantain is gingerly dried to be precise texture under the hot African sun. It is then roasted in a clay oven. The heat must be constant in order to achieve a particular color, texture & smell.

The next process is very delicate because if it is not done properly, with the right ingredients, there will be no soap. The roasted plantain skin is mixed with palm oil, palm kernel oil to form the soap. The roasting of the plantains determines the brownish-black color of the soap.
