Oral clindamycin is used for serious bacterial infections of the lungs, skin, abdomen, and female genital tract. It is a kind of antibiotic called a lincosamide.

Clindamycin is an antibiotic applied to the skin to treat acne. While only a small percentage of topical clindamycin is absorbed through skin, side effects such as diarrhea, bloody diarrhea, colitis, and pseudomembranous colitis have been reported.
