Famotidine
Famotidine is a member of the H-2 blocker (histamine blocker) family of drugs that prevents the release of acid into the stomach. Famotidine is used to treat stomach and duodenal ulcers, reflux of stomach acid into the esophagus, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Famotidine is available as a prescription drug and as a nonprescription product for relief of heartburn, acid indigestion, and sour stomach.

Try vitamin B12 to help you side-step side effects
This drug may deplete vitamin B12. Taking 1,000 mcg daily may help you prevent this depletion from leading to anemia and high homocysteine levels.
- Get tested for iron deficiency This medication may make it more difficult to absorb iron from foods but not necessarily supplements. Iron supplements may be beneficial for some people on this drug.
- Smoke cigarettes Cigarette smoking was found to decrease the drug’s acid-blocking effects. Avoid smoking cigarettes if using this medication.
