Pasta Bolognese
Otherwise known as spaghetti with meat sauce, this recipe is a surefire winner (especially with kids).
Ingredients
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp basil
- 1 tsp oregano
- 1 tsp marjoram
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 lb uncooked ground beef, extra lean, or ground light meat turkey
- 3 cups canned tomatoes, (1 28-ounce can)
- 2 cups tomato sauce, (1 15-ounce can)
- 1 lb spaghetti, uncooked
- 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese
Directions
- Spray a nonstick skillet with vegetable oil spray. Add onions and garlic and cook over medium heat for 5–10 minutes, until onions are soft and brown. Add basil, oregano, marjoram and pepper.
- Increase heat to high. Add ground beef or ground turkey and cook until the meat turns brown.
- Add tomatoes and tomato sauce and cook, covered for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally. The sauce will thicken as it cooks.
- Cook pasta in rapidly boiling water until done. Drain and transfer into a large serving dish.
- Pour sauce over pasta and top with Parmesan cheese.
