Light Mountain Natural Hair Color and Conditioner Black Description

100% Premium Henna

Henna coats each hair shaft with a natural, semi-permanent protein called hennatannic acid. Heat causes the hennatannic acid to cling to the proteins found in the hair (or nails and skin, if desired). Because henna coats and seals the hair shaft, it helps protect the hair from damaging effects of sun, salt, chlorine, wind and pollution in the environment. It can help miminize split ends and acts as “hair insurance” if you spend a lot of time in the sun, surf or wind. In addition to protecting the hair shaft, henna will tighten the hair cuticle and create a more solid surface which reflects light; the result is gleaming, lustrous hair.

Rather than producing dramatic color changes, henna enhances and deepens existing color. The darker your natural color, the less drastic the change will be inyour natural color. Because the color from henna is transparent or “seethrough,” henna cannot lighten dark hair; it will, however, add highlights to dark hair and can darken the color of lighter hair.

Light Mountain Black The previous reviewer mentioned that black "henna" is particularly messy and crumbly. It's because the product is actually indigo and the leaves are not ground as finely as henna. A little trick is to use 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon guar gum in the mixture as a binding agent. I suffered with the drippy, crumbly mess that the previous reviewer mentioned and only recently read about the guar gum trick. Vitacost also has guar gum at a very reasonable price. Light Mountain Black "indigo" is a good product and Vitacost has the best price. January 18, 2012
Nice color, but very messy I used to chemically color my hair at the salon, wanting it darker than my natural mousy brown. I love this hair color because its pennies compared to what I used to spend at the salon. It colors well, and I really like the "natural" red highlights that come out in the sun. The only thing I don't like about it is it is incredibly messy. I have to sit naked in the tub to color my hair and it gets EVERYWHERE. I can't figure out if I'm doing it wrong, but I follow the instructions. It just gets very sandy when I apply it to my hair and it falls everywhere. But, I suppose its worth it to have nice color for so cheap, and not to mention I don't have to worry about the chemicals anymore. May 8, 2010
