Moom - eco-friendly wax at home works great!
I had a friend give me a wax with regular wax and loved the results but hated all the mess and waste - throwing away lots of paper and sticks and strips, the messy electric wax heater, and WHAT was that wax made out of anyway, going boiling hot right onto my skin?? I didn't love the smell, or the rash I got after.
Sugaring is what I found when I went on YouTube searching for an environmentally friendly alternative to waxing. Sugaring is a very old and traditional way to remove hair, which you can do by making a simple sticky caramel paste with sugar and citrus juice on the stove.
The sugar paste is then used like a hair removal wax, but at room temperature, and it won't stick to your hands. There are videos that show people waxing without even using cloth strips or wooden applicators, just rolling the ball of sugar on the skin and "snapping" it to remove the hair.
For me, sugaring leaves my skin feeling freshly exfoliated and moisturized. It is SO much nicer than conventional waxing!
Moom is basically an at-home sugaring kit that I use because I'm too lazy/busy to make the sugar paste at home. It has added essential oil but otherwise seems to be simply sugar and citrus in a jar, precooked. There is a kit with the wooden applicators and muslin strips, or you can buy this refill and use without, or cut your own cloth strips from an old pillowcase and use a butter knife.
The sugar washes off with warm water... so it is super easy if you make a mistake or drip it anywhere. It can go right down the drain without fear of clogging, or into a greywater system without polluting.
It takes some practice to learn to use Moom, and it works less well if you are overheated. I will sometimes cool off my skin with a cool shower before starting. I find it works on fine and coarse hair, but I will use blunt scissors to trim excessively long hair to 1/2 or 1/4" before using.
If you have truly coarse hair, and/or if you have never tried waxing or sugaring, try getting one professional sugaring or waxing at a salon and then start sugaring to follow up, and you might be able to keep up with it from there. It's important to use your free hand to pull your skin taut when you 'snap' the sugar ball or strip off, and having someone else teach me to wax helped me understand that part. Most of the time when it doesn't work, it's because the skin is not pulled tight enough.
Moom is an awesome beauty product! Say goodbye to the guilt of throwing plastic razors in the landfill!

Best Wax Ever
I love Moom products. Goes on easy if you let it sit out or warm up the jar in warm/hot water for a couple of minutes. DO NOT microwave cause it won't work as well and will be ruined for future uses ( I learned the hard way). This does NOT come with the reusable muselin strips or wooden applicators (popcicle sticks) but can purchase here at Vitacost. They wash easy with just warm water and hang dry. Mine lasted for about a year.

I just ordered a Moom kit from another site and used it for the first time. I have been waxing at home know for a couple of months but had run out of supplies. When I saw the moom kit and read about how it does not stick to the skin and does not hurt, I thought I would give it a try. Will have to use a few more times to get it to give as good a hair removal as waxing, but OMG, there was virtually no pain when removing fabric strips and the fact that I can wash and reuse the fabric strips is incredible. Now that I see that vitacost carries this as such a great price, I will be buying all my Moom from them!

GREAT sugar wax!
When I started getting waxed, I always went to a salon and paid tons of cash, for tons of pain. Then I decided, this can't be that hard to do yourself. I tried all the beauty store wax kits, it was awful and about as far from organic/natural as a Twinkie.
So I purchased a small jar of this sugar hair wax. The greatest thing about it is it washes off the cloth strips and your skin with just water. Also it heats up quickly, you don't have to get it crazy hot to spread, and it works well. I use this on my lip and armpits (with the assistance of my husband). I (or he) can usually get all of the hair in one pull. I've used this for my legs before and it works fine, it just uses a lot of product and is time consuming...so I only do it before special vacations.
Without using this large jar on my legs, it should last me at least a year (probably longer), saving me over $150 in salon waxing!
