Grow Organic... For Life
Beta vulgaris (Cicla group) Biennial
Heirloom. Striking rainbow colored stalks in orange, purple, yellow and white. This Australian heirloom is tender and tasty, though somewhat less frost tolerant than regular chard. Twenty-eight days for baby greens.
Did You Know? Chard contains vitamins A, C, E and B6, as well as many minerals.
Soil and Water: Chard prefers moderate soil with plenty of added organic matter and even, moderate water throughout the season.
Planting and Growing: Start seeds indoors 1-2 weeks before the last frost, and keep planting every 2 weeks for succession harvest. Chard tolerates light frosts when young, and moderate freezes once established. It can also adapt to warmer summer temperatures.
Harvesting and Storage: harvest outer stalks early, or cut the whole plant to allow a second plant to grow.
