Vegetarianism
Description: A diet consisting only of plant products.

Cause: Undertaken for health or philosophical reasons.

Useful Supplements: Usually not needed.

Useful Herbs: Generally no supplementation is needed.

Further information: Vegetarianism is a diet which contains no meats (beef, chicken, pork, fish, etc). Veganism goes one step further, avoiding all animal products as well (including dairy, eggs, and honey). A vegetarian or vegan diet can be extremely healthy; it is generally high in fiber and low in saturated fats.
Vegetarian diets can also be helpful in the control of various medical conditions, including heart disease and rheumatoid arthritis. In addition, it may help encourage weight loss.
A vegetarian diet, when controlled to contain a balance of various plant products, is generally adequate in all nutrients. Supplementation may be necessary, however, in cases where other health concerns cause a deficiency of certain vitamins or minerals.
