DMAE
Description: Dimethylaminoethanol (DMAE) is a precursor of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter which is needed for normal bodily functioning. It has become a popular "smart drug" for brain enhancement and treatment of nervous system disorders. These claims have not been adequately proven in medical or laboratory studies, however.
DMAE is also believed to act as a mild stimulant or antidepressant, and to encourage sound sleep at night. These claims have not been proven, however.
DMAE is believed to increase levels of brain neurotransmitters. In one study, DMAE given in 600 mg doses three times daily produced some positive behavioral changes in senile patients.
1 Another study, however, did not show these positive results,2 so the exact nature of DMAE’s effect on Alzheimer’s patients is still uncertain.

Useful in treatment of: Alzheimer’s Disease.

Recommended Dosage: 600 mg three times daily for Alzheimer’s Disease.

Contraindications: DMAE should be used with caution. While some claim it prolongs life expectancy, laboratory animals given DMAE actually had a shorted lifespan than normal.
