Dong Quai
Description: Dong Quai (Angelica sinensis) is often called "the female ginseng" due to its many uses in regularizing and treating menstruation-related abnormalities. Its usefulness is not limited only to women, however; both men and women with cardiovascular diseases show improved circulation when taking dong quai.1
Dong quai has long been used in treating "female difficulties" such as irregular menstrual cycles, suppressed menstruation, painful abdominal cramping, and menopausal symptoms. To date, most of its believed powers have not been thoroughly studied.
Dong Quai is effective in treating a weak uterus by promoting better metabolism.
2 It may also help regulate hormonal shifts and regularize the menstrual cycle.3
Dong Quai has been traditionally used for treatment of hot flashes relating to menopause, but no studies have been performed.
Dong Quai helps to promote hormonal balance and is especially effective in treating premenstrual cramping.
