| Description: Maitake (Grifola frondosa) is a mushroom that grows to be as large in diameter as a basketball. It can be found in northeastern Japan, as well as some parts of Europe and North America. This mushroom is extremely sensitive to environmental changes, making it difficult to cultivate. Both the head and stem of the mushroom are used medicinally. Maitake mushrooms enhance immunity,1 and appear especially effective in helping the body to inhibit cancer growth.2 Natural Sources: The maitake mushroom can be eaten by itself.
