| Description: Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) is an organic form of sulfur, a mineral that is needed for the manufacture of many proteins. Sulfur is necessary for hair, muscle, skin, bone, tooth, and insulin formation. Most dietary sulfur is found in amino acids from protein-rich foods. Sulfur is also found in Garlic and onions.1 Most of the bodys sulfur is found in the sulfur-containing amino acids methione, cystine, and cysteine. Vitamin B1 also contains a small amount of sulfur, as do biotin and pantothenic acid. Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) contains the sulfur that is necessary for connective tissue such as cartilage.2 It may be effective in treating the tissue degeneration associated with lupus.
