Tea Tree Oil
Description: The tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) is similar to eucalyptus. The essential oil extracted from this tree has numerous medicinal properties. The most important of these is the fact that it is able to fight at least one strain of bacteria that antibiotics are unable to stop.1
Tea tree oil’s antibacterial properties are also useful in treating colds, ear infections, and athlete’s foot.
Its astringent properties make it an excellent topical treatment for acne.
In addition, it acts as a topical anesthetic when used on cuts and scrapes.
Diluted tea tree oil, applied topically, is a useful yeast infection treatment for some women. Concentrations as strong as 40% of normal strength may be used as a vaginal douche.
