| Vanadium |
| Description: Vanadium is a trace mineral which is believed to play a role in building teeth and bones. In animals it appears to be necessary for growth and fertility as well; however, no connection to these has been found in humans. Vanadium, taken as vanadyl sulfate, may help improve glucose control in Type 2 diabetics.1 However, it usually needs to be taken in a high quantity to offer these effects, and its safety at these levels is untested. Natural Sources: Cereals, Corn, Gelatin, Mushrooms, Parsley, Seafood, Soy. Useful in treatment of: diabetes Recommended Dosage: None established. Contraindications: None known. Very little research has been done to date. References: 1Halberstam M, Cohen N, Shlimovich P, et al. Oral vanadyl sulfate improves insulin sensitivity in NIDDM but not in obese nondiabetic subjects.
