Wild Yam
Description: Wild Yam (Dioscorea villosa) is popular for its ability to treat numerous problems. It is effective in treating, uterine and abdominal spasms, inflammation, colic, nausea, and gastroenteritis.
Wild Yam also acts as an emotional relaxant, easing hysteria.
Wild Yam contains the steroidal saponins diosgenin, pregnenolone, and botogenin.
1 This makes it an effective raw material in the synthesis of steroids.
Wild yam, taken in a dose of 2 to 3 ml several times daily, has been shown to raise HDL cholesterol levels.
2
Wild Yam is not, as often stated, a natural source of Progesterone. While Wild Yam can be converted to Progesterone in a laboratory setting, the body cannot duplicate this process efficiently enough to be uses as the only source of progesterone by menopausal women. A health care professional should be consulted before attempting to replace any or all progesterone supplements with Wild Yam.
Wild Yam may help prevent miscarriages due to low hormone levels.
