Starwest Botanicals Fennel Seed Whole Organic -- 1 lb
Good, but be careful since it's not "clean"
Seems to have good freshness, but there are particles that seem inedible scattered all over the mix, so you've got to filter them (with careful eyes) before ingesting them directly. They could certainly do a better job with cleaning these particles out before packaging them!
As far as taste goes, it feels different from Indian fennel (since this one is from Egypt).

Smells very fresh. A little goes a long way. I grind a spice jar's worth in a coffee grinder (since the volatile oils will evaporate over time) and add it with cinnamon and grated ginger to boiled water to make a warming tea in winter. I filter with a french press.

The product smelt fresh
But needed cleaning as there were some twigs and tiny stones which resulted in sand when chewed

I was pleased with this bag beyond expectations. I add my fennel to pizza & tilapia and at someone's recommendation as a breath freshner.

If you chew fennel, this is the best way to get it...very economical! Starwest has very fresh herbs, and this package can be kept in freezer. I put some in a small jar that I leave on the counter, so that I can chew some after each meal.
Sure...fennel seeds get stuck in your teeth, but it's a small price to pay for a clean healthy mouth and digestive system!
