Consult a health care practitioner prior to use if you have diabetes. There is limited evidence from preclinical studies that burdock may have hypoglycemia activity. Use by adults and adolescents over 12 years of age with renal failure and/or diabetes, and/or heart failure should be avoided because of possible complications due to hyperkalemia.
Do not use if you are allergic to plants of the Asteraceae/Compositae/Daisy family such as burdock and dandelion or if you are allergic to stinging nettle. If hypersensitivity or allergic reactions occur, discontinue use. Do not use if you have liver or gall bladder disorders or obstructions of the biliary or intestinal tract, acute gallbladder inflammation, or in cases of active peptic ulcer. Discontinue use if you develop symptoms of liver trouble.
Do not use if pregnant or breast-feeding. Use is not recommended in children under 12 years of age.
Side effects: In sensitive individuals, mild gastrointestinal upset (nausea, vomiting and diarrhea) or allergic reactions (itching, exanthema, hives) may occur from use of stinging nettle. The frequency is not known. Discomfort due to gastric hyperacidity may occur after taking herbs that contain bitter substances like dandelion root.
