Got 30 minutes to spare? Prepare dinner using your trusty Instant Pot! This rich, comforting stew tastes as if it’s been slow-cooked for hours. But with minimal ingredients (and minimal effort), it comes together quickly without the all-day simmer. Although simple, this dish is far from plain. Thanks to the star ingredient—berbere seasoning—which is an Ethiopian staple, this flavorful stew will quickly become a family favorite. And if you have a little extra time, toss in some chopped veggies such as carrots and onions.

Homemade Instant Pot Berbere Lentil Stew with Tofu |

3 cups water or broth
1 cup uncooked lentils
1 lb. tofu or uncooked beef, cubed or sliced
2 Tbsp. Frontier Berbere Seasoning Ethiopian 12-Spice Blend
14.5-oz. can no-salt-added diced tomatoes


  1. In an Instant Pot, combine all ingredients and lock lid in place.
  2. Set pot to cook on high pressure for 25 minutes.
  3. Allow pressure to release naturally, or if you just can’t wait to try this stew, feel free to do a quick release!
