3 Healthy, Homemade Cat Treat Recipes

There’s an abundance of DIY dog treats on the Internet, but homemade cat treat recipes can be hard to find. It’s a bit unfair because cats undoubtedly love receiving treats as much as dogs! Plus, cat treats can be a very easy and fun project to take on in your free time. Making cat treats takes only a few ingredients and even fewer pieces of equipment. (Got a bowl, blender and baking sheet? You’re set!) You’ll feel accomplished making these treats and your cat will love you for it!

Cat Eating Homemade Cat Treat from Owner's Hand | Vitacost.com/blog

There are health benefits for making your own cat treats, too! With all of the artificial fillers and grains sneaking into mainstream cat food these days, it is important to make sure that your cat is getting the proper nutrition he needs, as well as adding some fresh ingredients into his diet. While the vast majority of a cat’s diet should be meat, incorporating these snacks can add some additional fiber to assist digestion as well as keep them from getting tired of their daily meals.

Here are three incredibly simple and quick recipes to try out:

Potato and Tuna Patties

  2. Boil (or microwave) potato until well-cooked and tender, about 5 minutes.
  3. In medium bowl, mash the potato using a fork.
  4. Add drained tuna and egg and mix until well combined and moldable. (If too moist, add coconut flour a teaspoon at a time.)
  5. Shape mixture into bite-sized patties and place onto baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 10-15 minutes until slightly browned and crispy. Store refrigerated in an airtight container.
