There’s nothing worse than unruly, frizzy hair. Except maybe for flyaway, static-y hair. Wait a minute. Brittle, splitting hair? An absolute nightmare. One thing’s for certain: all of these hair woes are caused, in large part, by one single factor. I’m talking about lack of moisture here, honey.

Now that winter’s here, there’s a chill in the air. Artificial heat is being pumped through your home, the office, stores, even your car–which is ideal when the weather outside is frightful. But along with this very-much-welcomed warmth comes a not-so-friendly visitor: dry air. It follows you everywhere, sucking every last bit of moisture from your body, including your hair.
The solution, my friends? Moisturizer. Your face needs it. Your hands need it. Your freshly shaved legs need it. But most of all, the glorious mane atop your pretty little head needs it. Lucky for you, there’s an endless variety of hydrating hair products available, many of which are specially formulated for your specific conditioning needs. Here are a few options:
Tame the frizz. If you were blessed with bouncy, springy, curly hair, you know all too well what happens when fall fades away. Ringlets start to look like a rat’s nest. An inch or two is added to your height–not from those knockout knee-high boots, but from tangly, free-flying frizz. What you need is a smoothing, moisturizing hair serum. Try Giovanni Frizz Be Gone, a lightweight blend of natural oils that calms and quenches thirsty winter hair.
Fight flyaways. Straight, fine hair goes one of two ways when dry air invades: limp and flat, or wisped out and hovering beside your head, standing on end from static. For the latter, I highly recommend a daily dose of Alba Botanica Leave-In Conditioner. A little dollop supplies weightless moisture that makes hair more manageable, while also providing body and shine. If volume is what you need (think: hat head), go with Giovanni Root 66 Directional Root Lifting Spray. It adds height wherever you need it most.
Banish breakage. Even if you’ve sworn off straighteners and use your hair dryer only when absolutely necessary, no one’s really safe from split ends and cracked strands when winter’s underway. Organix makes a clever Brazilian Keratin Therapy Anti-Breakage Serum that not only provides intense (and, I must add, deliciously tropical-scented) hydration but strengthens hair for improved texture and elasticity. If styling with tools is a must, use Alterna Bamboo Smooth Anti-Breakage Spray before blow drying or flat ironing. It’s been shown to reduce breakage brought on by heat by up to 87 percent!
See? Good hair days are possible. Goodbye, frizzies and hello, fabulous!
