African Red Tea Imports Honeybush Tea Loose Leaves -- 1 lb
Makes great chai tea!
This is a very mild tea. As others have said, you may need to use more per cup than you are used to. I use 1 T. of it per cup of hot water and for that reason I deducted one star. However, this is a very pleasant tea with very low tannins, no caffeine and a natural sweetness. I do not add sweeteners to my tea as a rule, but I enjoy the slight hint of "honey" that is a natural part of this tea. Be sure to brew it for 10 minutes (as is customary for many herbal teas) to get the full flavor.
My favorite use of this tea is as a Chai Tea. Here is my recipe for those that want to try it.
10 c. water
1/2 c. Honey Bush Tea
4 short cinnamon sticks
8 whole star anise
1 T. whole cloves
2 - 6" vanilla beans, split up the middle
6 - 1/4" thick slices of fresh ginger (or candied ginger if you like)
2 t. whole cardamom pods, smashed
2 t. ground nutmeg
1 t. fennel seed
zest from one orange (with as little pulp included as possible)
Cook all ingredients together, uncovered, for 40 minutes. Then let cool in pot before straining and placing in a storage container. Serve 1 c. of tea with 1/2 c. milk or milk substitute (I use 1/4 c. fresh almond milk and 1/4 coconut milk). You can add honey if you wish, but I don't find it necessary. ENJOY!

Great taste, great price
This is a high quality Honeybush tea. I've been buying it from Vitacost for awhile and it is consistently good. I would highly recommend this product as the price is exceptional as compared to other online stores.

We love honeybush tea in our family. I personally prefer it to the rooibos tea because it is more mellow and soothing, without little fruity acidic kick that rooibus has (I dont like fruity teas) . The main reason I got this loose tea is to get away from using tea bags, and in addition it is less expensive than packaged tea.
It turned out to be not as strong as the some tea packets, I think about half as strong as the Numi tea bags (which are exceptionally flavorful) so I use about two heaping teaspoons to get my desired strength, but I still think it is more economical to get than Numi honeybush packets. Overall this tea is very good -- we can control the strength of our brews and dont have to unnecessarily brew paper. We are about finished with the first bag and I am getting another one.

Uses Twice as Much Tea
Uses Twice as Much Tea "Leaves" as Rooibos Tea. Taste Similarly as Rooibos. Quality and Taste are Excellent. I will continue to buy the African Red Rooibos in both Plain (unflavored) and Vanilla flavored but will not purchase this African Red Honeybush Tea again.
