Bob's Red Mill Organic Whole Grain Oat Groats Description
Friend of the Heart
"Groat" is an old Scottish word from hundreds of years ago, that refers to cereal made from whole, hull-less oats. They take a bit longer to prepare than cut or rolled oats, but the exceptionally hearty flavor and chewy subtlety of this wholesome porridge make it well worth the wait. Oats are a very good source of soluble fiber, which prevents cholesterol from entering the bloodstream, so start your day the heart-healthy way with a rich bowl of Bob's Red Mill Whole Grain Oat Groats. They also make a great side dish for dinner.
For four hearty servings, bring 1 cup Bob's Red Mill Organic Oat Groats, 3 cups water and 1 tsp. salt to a boil. Cover and simmer for 50 to 60 minutes. Remove from heat and let stand for 10 minutes. Topped with brown sugar, cinnamon and a bit of butter, it makes a delicious breakfast cereal. Garnish with your favorite seasoning, vegetables and/or meats for a fantastic pilaf.
Keeps best refrigerated or frozen.
