First Aid Tips

You bump into the coffee table, trip over the Welcome mat or miss that piece of onion and cut yourself instead. Sometimes the things you do every day can one day cause a bruised leg or bleeding finger. That’s why you have all the first aid supplies on hand. But do you know how to keep your first aid kit safe to ensure your own safety? Here’s how:

  • Organize your first aid kit by order of use, perhaps putting hand sanitizer and gloves on top. A disheveled first aid kit can lead to more injury if, say, a pair of scissors is buried beneath piles of gauze and bandages.
  • Keep emergency phone numbers alongside, or taped to the inside, of your first aid kit – including contact information for physicians/pediatricians, your local hospital and poison control center.
  • Store your kit in a safe, close-at-hand place, such as a kitchen pantry or hall closet. Be sure the space is cool and dry so as not to compromise the potency of any medicated tablets and ointments.
