Lifetime Osteo Density™ Blend -- 180 Vegetarian Capsules
Prefer the liquid form
Ordered these capsules as Vitacost & local Super Supplements were out of stock on the same product in liquid form (my favorite!!!). These capsules are a new product -- convenient for travel as the liquid needs refrigeration, but the capsules have Calcium Carbonate, which the body does not absorb as well as Calcium Citrate and need to swallow SO MANY of pills! :-(.
My 2 main concerns are:
(1) need to swallow 6 large capsules (2 each 3 times a day) to get 1,000 mg of calcium (I need 1,500 mg due to osteopenia), whereas just one tablespoon of the Liquid Osteo Density Blend (LOB) liquid provides 750 mg of calcium. Just 2 tablespoons a day fulfills my needs (one tablespoon each of the tasty and very easy to swallow liquid twice a day).
(2) The capsules are combination of Calcium Carbonate and Calcium Citrate, whereas the liquid form contains only Calcium Citrate, which is MUCH BETTER for the body to absorb.
Even Citracal has no Calcium Carbonate -- only Calcium Citrate. Not sure why Lifetime is messing with Calcium Carbonate in their capsules, especially in a new product when the science is well known.
Comparison of LOB capsules with Citracal with Magnesium:
Citracal -- 2 capsules provides 500 mg of calcium (all in the form of Calcium Citrate). 6 capsules will provide 1,500 mg of calcium, which I need.
Lifetime Osteo Density Blend (LOB) -- 6 capsules provides only 1,000 mg of calcium (500 mg short of my daily requirement in supplement form -- not counting food sources of calcium), plus downside of Calcium Carbonate in the capsules.
Citracal has magnesium, zinc, Vit D, copper and manganese in addition to the calcium citrate (no calcium carbonate, which is a plus).
LOB has everything Citracal has, except for zinc, but has bonus of Vit K-2, plus boron, marine collagen and silica (positives, especially since I take zinc separately)
Citracal has Titanium Dioxide, which is a negative.
There are positives and negatives to the Lifetime Osteo Blend capsules. But I really hope the company will resume production of the LOB in liquid form.
As I write the comparisons down for this review, I am tempted to buy Citracal instead of the LOB capsules in the future (for travel and daily needs) if the liquid form is no longer available (I take Vit K separately since there is none in Citracal).
6 capsules with 500 mg short of daily requirements is not the best option. Do not want to take 9 capsules per day when travelling!!! Do not like having to swallow SO MANY large capsules daily!! :-(
Am taking Lifetime's High Potency Calcium Magnesium Citrate in Pina Colada for the time being, but it does not taste too good and does not have the Vit K, Manganese, Collagen, Silica and Boron that the Osteo Density Blend has.
PLEASE BRING BACK THE LIQUID FORM of Osteo Density Blend!!!
