Planetary Herbals Stevia Powder -- 3.5 oz
Not the best tasting Stevia
I have been using stevia for several years. I have always tried to find the brand that is pure, i.e. not other additives. Many popular brands on the market today are mixed with some other type of disguised sugar, so you have to be careful. The pure concentrated white powder goes a long way and is very palatable. I saw this brand of stevia and liked the fact that it was unbleached. There were no really bad reviews, so I took a chance that I would like it as well as the white stuff. I also liked the fact that it was not as expensive, which can sometimes be an indicator that it isn't in too much demand...which leads to suspicion. When I opened the bottle the smell hit me from a foot away....very strong and funky smelling. I don't think it's bad or rotten, I think it's just unbleached stevia. Because I am not use to it, I was very turned off by it. I tried using it in a smoothie and had to toss the smoothie. My daughter agreed that it was not pleasant smelling or tasting. It makes me wonder what they do to the white stuff to get it so un-smelly? I guess the answer is BLEACH. So if you are concerned more about bleach than a more natural product, and don't mind the pungent odor and taste, this stevia is for you. I will stick with the white stuff. I have to admit that Vitacost was great about refunding my money and even paid the return shipping. They also let me keep the smelly stuff.

If you want stevia that is unprocessed and in the raw then this is it! This is the best form to have as it retains all its nutrients however, it's not as easy to mix as the liquid or crystalized forms. One must learn to be creative in the use of it and this comes with continued application.

I use stevia all of the time but this product is very different. It is basically ground leaves of stevia and is green. Makes everything green and quite disgusting.

Green Stevia is hard to find.
I searched for quite some time before finding this product. Because it is just powdered leaf, it has not been through a lot of processing and that is important to me. It produces a very satisfactory baked item when used to reduce the amount of sugar in a recipe.
