Further information: Eczema is a skin disorder caused by allergies. It appears as inflamed, itchy, and scaly skin. It is far more common in children under age 18 than it is in adults. It often is connected to other allergy-related conditions, including asthma, hayfever, and psoriasis.
Because eczema is caused by allergies, the best treatment is to find the causing allergen, and avoid it as much as possible. If the suspected problem is a food allergy, an elimination diet may help find the cause.

The following herbs and supplements may be effective in treating eczema:

Fatty acid imbalances are often associated with eczema. In most cases, too much Omega-6 and too little Omega-3 fatty acid are the cause. Supplements may be effective in easing eczema symptoms.1

Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, Licorice may be as effective as cortisone in the treatment of itching due to eczema.2 In one study, children who took Licorice internally experienced a 90% reduction in eczema symptoms.3 Licorice should not be used by patients with heart conditions.
