Solgar Lactase 3500 Natural Vanilla -- 60 Chewable Wafers
Helps But Isn't a Cure-All
I recently became lactose intolerant, so giving up cheese has been so very hard. I cheat and eat pizza once every week or two, on a day where I am home and have nowhere to go for the rest of the day. I take Solgar Lactase Enzymes before and during the pizza, and I've noticed it does help some.
My routine is to take one about 30-60 minutes before consuming dairy, then one in the middle of the meal. It helps reduce the gastric disturbances post-dairy. It doesn't eliminate them, but does seem to reduce them. I'll take what I can get.
These are supposed to be vanilla flavored chewable. I wanted something chewable but all natural, so these fit the bill. The flavor isn't good. There is a hint of vanilla, but that's it, and the rest is mildly putrid. Even still, it's better than artificially sweetened and artificially flavored ones.
Not too chalky, dissolves quickly after chewing. Sometimes a clump of it gets stuck on my teeth, but that's it.
I haven't tried a wide variety of lactase enzymes, so I can't really compare this one to others. I chose this one based on reviews here on Vitacost. I'm open to trying a new kind that may work better, but at least I have this one that does provide some relief.

I need something for my kids once in a while, and i couldn't even stomach this - they quickly spit them out.

I found these in South Africa and was happy to find them for sale here. They are pleasantly soft to chew, have a nice taste and work very well. I wouldn't be caught without them and buy several bottles at a time. Much better than other brands.
