Vitacost Benexia(tm) Black Chia Seeds with Omega-3 and Fiber -15 grams Description

A nutty-tasting, nutrient-rich “superfood” providing omega-3 EFAs, fiber and more.

What are chia seeds?

Chia seeds are nutrient-rich seeds derived from a plant called Salvia hispanica (of the mint family), native to Mexico and Guatemela. Aztec and Mayan civilizations regularly consumed chia seeds as a whole grain or ground into flour and used in a variety of dishes. The word chia means “strength” in the Mayan language and, according to folklore, the seeds were prized by ancient cultures for their energy-boosting properties.

Tastes Like Dirt! I have been eating Organic White Chia seeds from Nutiva for the past year and thought I'd try these since I usually LOVE the Vitacost brand and they were a great price. Tonight I made my regular Chia Seed Pudding and I literally spat it out in the sink as soon as I tasted it. I might as well have went in my backyard and grabbed a handful of dirt to dine on. I rarely write poor reviews but had to for this. Reading other reviews, perhaps it was just a bad batch (?) but for sure I won'tbe purchasing these again!! August 19, 2013
Love Chia Seeds, I use them everyday in protien shakes. August 17, 2013
The worst chia seeds in my experience. I love chia seeds and I normally use it in my water or in protein shake, which I sometimes make a big batch for later use. I've tried many brands of chia seeds, but I've never didn't like any of them until this one. It does not hold up its gel like other brands and turns all soggy and digestible. Unless you consume within few minutes when its soaked, it is like trying to consume cardboard fibers. August 7, 2013
works as supplement, but not to cook with I use chia seeds as a food staple. I cook with it, I sprinkle it on fruit, I add it to smoothies. These chia seeds are extra earthy which is fine if you are taken them daily as a supplement, not so fine if you are using them as food. July 29, 2013
