Heat a pot over medium heat. Add blackberries and a splash of water. Bring to a boil, add cane sugar, lemon juice, and zest. Reduce the heat to a gentle boil. Cook for 3-5 minutes. Mash the berries a little, keeping a few intact.
Add cornstarch and mix well. Turn off the heat and cook for 2-3 minutes allowing berries to thicken. Remove from pot and place into a bowl to cool.
Add to toast with a little cream cheese and enjoy!
