When you’re stressed, you might reach for a spoonful of honey or a square of chocolate. But did you know that some of your favorite, organic comfort foods can also function as skincare products? From refreshing cucumber to rich cacao, these easy recipes offer benefits for smooth, calm and clean skin. Grab a few ingredients and test them out — just try not to eat them when you’re done!

Cacao Avocado Face Mask

Buy Vitacost.com organic cacao powder–whatever you don’t eat, mix with avocado for a beautifying mask!

Ingredients
1 avocado
2 tablespoons raw cacao powder
2 tablespoons raw honey

Directions
In a small bowl, combine all ingredients, mashing and mixing until a smooth cream forms. Smooth mixture onto skin and leave on for a half hour (I like to apply it before a nice long soak in the tub!). Rinse clean.

Almond oil adds a slightly sweet scent to this cream.

Soothing Cucumber Cream

Ingredients

1 Tbsp. organic cucumber pulp
Water
1  Tbsp. beeswax
3  Tbsp. almond oil

Directions
Peel and grate fresh cucumber. Place beeswax and almond oil in small saucepan; melt using double-boiler method. Add 2 Tbsp. boiling water, then cucumber pulp. Let simmer on low for about 30 minutes, stirring frequently. Strain; let cool and place in container. Shake before using.

Aloe vera juice
Aloe vera is mild and soothing.

Green Tea &  Aloe Vera Toner

1 oz. aloe vera juice
3 organic green tea tea bags
10 drops jojoba oil or grapeseed oil
5 drops vitamin E oil
3 drops tea tree oil

Directions
Place tea bags in medium-sized bowl; cover with boiling water and let step for 20 minutes. Pour into a glass bottle or container. Add apple cider vinegar and oils and shake to combine.

Tip: Use apple cider vinegar instead of  aloe juice  if you have oily skin.

DIY brown sugar scrub
Organic coconut oil gives this DIY beauty recipe a lightly sweet scent

Brown Sugar & Vanilla Scrub

Ingredients
2 cups brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup organic coconut oil
1 Tbsp. pure vanilla extract

Directions
Mix sugars until there are no lumps. Add oil and vanilla; stir well to combine and place in airtight glass container. When ready to use, apply to face, scrubbing gently  into skin  using a circular motion. Rinse clean.

This recipe makes enough for dozens of scrubs.  Pack it in an  airtight container and store for up to two weeks in your refrigerator.

Use Thayer’s alcohol-free witch hazel for non-drying effects.

Aloe Rose Facial Spritz

4 oz.  aloe vera juice
3 oz.  witch hazel

An essential oil such as geranium

Directions
Combine all ingredients, using just a few drops of essential oil (if desired), in a spritzer bottle. Shake gently before spriting a light layer on your face. Let dry, then apply your moisturizer and sunscreen.

Tip: For extra-cooling effects, store the bottle in your refrigerator.
