You might not be thinking about the planet while you’re slathering on moisturizer or scrubbing up in the shower – but perhaps you should. That’s because many of the beauty and personal care products you use on a daily basis may contain ingredients that have a negative impact on the environment (not to mention on your own body!).
With that in mind, here are my 5 favorite eco-friendly bath & beauty products:
Aura Cacia Sweet Almond Oil: This one gets an extra-special gold star for being pure, organic, free of earth-harming synthetic ingredients and for being one of the most versatile products in my bathroom cabinet (coconut oil will always hold the #1 spot, in case you’re curious). Sometimes I use it as a body oil for soft, dewy skin fresh out of the shower. Other times I dab it on a cotton round to wipe away stubborn eyeliner and mascara. It also makes an excellent carrier oil to dilute my favorite essential scents, like lavender and peppermint. Ahhhh.
Kiss My Face Whenever Shampoo – Green Tea & Lime: Not only are the ingredients (which include organic aloe, argan oil, green tea and more) eco-friendly, but buying the economical 32-oz. size means less waste, packaging and environmental impact when compared to purchasing several smaller bottles of shampoo. Did I mention it leaves my hair soft, shiny and smelling great? Pair it with the matching conditioner for the ultimate eco-friendly hair routine.
Nature’s Gate Fluoride-Free Natural Toothpaste For me, nothing beats the feeling of fresh, clean teeth. (One of the reasons why I love going to the dentist – it’s true!) I look forward to brushing because I love the minty flavor of this natural, fluoride-free toothpaste. It’s made with 7 different botanicals — including cranberry, aloe, ginger and pomegranate — to help keep my mouth clean, fresh and healthy. No uncomfortable, chemically induced ‘burning’ feeling!
Acure Organics Leave-in Conditioner: When my hair needs a little extra TLC (after a torturous week of blow drying or beach-going), my go-to treatment is this argan-powered product. It helps de-tangle my endlessly long tresses and add extra shine without that greasy feeling you get from other leave-in products. As an added bonus, it’s free of fake fragrances, sulfates, parabens and phthalates, plus it’s vegan and cruelty free.
Honeybee Gardens Pressed Mineral Powder: I had a wake-up call the day I decided to actually read the ingredients of my favorite powder foundation. Yikes. I set out to find another product that would complement my complexion without compromising my body or the environment – and I settled on Honeybee Gardens. The pressed mineral powder provides the perfect coverage, and it’s free of parabens, talc and other mysterious chemicals. It comes without the wasteful plastic compact/mirror, but you can buy an empty one separately and switch out your pressed powder whenever you please!
