If you’re looking for the “germiest” place in the office, forget the bathroom or kitchen. There are more germs lurking on your desk than anywhere else ““ perhaps up to 400 times more germs than a toilet seat!
Your phone, keyboard, mouse and the desk surface itself may be teeming with thousands of different types of germs that can make you sick (including bacteria, fungi, parasites and viruses). These tiny invaders commonly come from food particles, sick co-workers and contact with various objects throughout the day.
So what can you do to keep your desk safe and clean? Start your day by wiping down your desk, keyboard, mouse, phone, chair and any other objects you use or touch on a daily basis. Keep food germs from infesting your desk by eating your lunch or snacks over a paper towel or plate and wiping down afterwards. Wash your hands frequently and keep hand sanitizer around for a quick germ-killing fix.
Most importantly, be courteous to your co-workers. If you’re feeling sick, keep your germs to yourself and stay home!
