Best Way to Spring Clean Your Bathroom

It’s the most frequently used””and thus the dirtiest””room in your house: the bathroom. Lurking in the sink and toilet, under handles and even on the showerhead, bathroom germs accumulate rapidly and are easily spread from one family member to another.

A good spring cleaning will get your bathroom back in shape. Use the following top-to-bottom approach to make the room sparkle:

“¢ Start by wiping down the ceiling to remove dust and mold, paying extra attention to corners. Use a “magic erasing” sponge to thoroughly remove any spots of mold.
“¢ Vacuum light fixtures and vents; wipe clean with wet, soapy sponge.
“¢ If your bathroom has windows, clean them next. Remove and wash screens. Clean glass with non-streak glass cleaner.
“¢Clean mirrors with glass cleaner.
“¢ If the showerhead has mineral buildup, remove it. Place it in a saucepan filled with vinegar and bring it to a simmer on the stove. Let simmer a few minutes (do not boil!), remove, rinse with water and reinstall.
“¢ Remove shower curtain and liner; clean in washing machine with ¼ cup bleach (check instructions on curtain first to make sure bleach is allowed). Replace plastic liner with a new one.
“¢ Use bathroom cleaner to clean shower walls and tub. Use old toothbrush to scrub grout. Let cleaner sit on surfaces for several minutes before wiping down/rinsing.
“¢ Clean sinks and countertops with bathroom cleaner; use old toothbrush to scrub out-of-sight areas around handles and drains.
“¢ Remove items from medicine cabinet and clean surfaces. Discard old/expired items; wipe down and replace the rest.
“¢Remove items from any shelves; dust and clean with wet, soapy sponge.
“¢Scrub inside of toilet, then disinfect the outside.
“¢ Vacuum or sweep the floor; scrub clean with bathroom cleaner, then mop.

You’ll feel much better once the job is done. But remember, a regular weekly cleaning routine helps keep the bathroom sanitary and your family in good health.
