I try not to take traditional medicine unless it’s absolutely necessary, as in: I’m on my deathbed, gasping for breath. (And my boyfriend teases me that even if I were on my death bed, I’d ask for a tincture of apple cider vinegar and aloe. But I digress.) Fortunately, I get by pretty well on my own between my healthy habits and knowledge of herbs””like oil of oregano. Boy do I love that stuff when you’re feeling under the weather!
My favorite TV doctor was just talking about this on his show, and he gave me some new ideas for how to benefit from this amazing herb.
-Hand sanitizer: Mix extra-virgin coconut oil (2 tablespoons) with 10 drops of oil of oregano. Put it in a little jar. Use it to clean your hands when soap’s not in sight.
-Zit zapper: Mix olive oil and oil of oregano in a bottle or tiny bowl, and apply to your trouble spots with a cotton swab.
-Decongestant: You know the whole breathe-over-a-bowl-of-hot-water-with-a-towel-on-your-head trick? Add some oil of oregano to the water to amp up the vapor power.
I’ve personally used it to massage into my muscles after rough workouts, for dandruff and even to shoo away bugs. Oh, oil of oregano, is there anything you can’t do?
