Don’t forget to floss. And do your downward dogs.

People often ask me how my kids feel about yoga. We own five yoga studios and practice yoga every day, and people wonder if this makes our kids interested in the 5,000 year-old practice, or the opposite.

To my kids, practicing yoga is like brushing your teeth. It’s something you do every day, and more than once a day.

“OMG,” you’re thinking. “She’s a yoga Nazi! She makes her kids practice yoga all the time!”

Damn straight. Yes, I do.

Because yoga ain’t just asana people. You can’t think of it only from the physical. We’re a very physically focused culture, which is fine””as long as you’re aware. Aware that the physical body rocks and it’s awesome and great to keep it super healthy and happy, but we have two other “bodies” as well: the mental and the spiritual. It’s important to keep all three of your bodies in balance.

Yoga does just that. It keeps you in balance. All of you. It’s so much more than the physical asana. It’s an attitude, an intention, a focus. It’s a practice. All day, every day. Walking the world with integrity and grace. Finding forgiveness. Doing your best, with breath. Beginning again, and again and again.

Do my kids do asana? Absolutely. Do I make them do asana? Nope. They see us doing it, and they want to do it. My kids also go to kids’ classes. Because they love “˜em.

I teach my kids to only do what you love. And the rest will fall into place.

Have the best day ever!

Namaste!
